TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOU...
I'm a Canadian living permanently in London, UK and working in the British Civil Service.
I manage teams and budgets to help politicians make decisions and pass legislation. I take (sometimes competing) political priorities and translate them into concrete objectives for the people I manage. I also work with the public, presenting at conferences, coaching my team to answer expert questions, and commissioning research.
Previously, I've worked as a teacher and a freelance writer.
WHAT CONSIDERATIONS GUIDE YOU IN DECIDING HOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPEND YOUR CAREER? HOW DO YOU PRIORITIZE OR WEIGH THESE?
It almost goes without saying that I care about improving the world! I look for roles that are either straightforwardly positive impact or have a clear theory of change.
My job also needs to support my family life: maximum 40 hours per week, £75k+ total compensation.
I'm planning to spend the next few years exploring roles that could give me even better personal fit - because the better my personal fit, the more I'll improve my family's lives and the world.
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IDEAL ROLES FOR YOU, WHAT ARE SOME
KEY CHARACTERISTICS?
I love strategic decision-making:
-see an impossible problem
-we have to do something about it anyways
-what do we know? what could we know? who can help us understand?
-come up with options
-carve that impossible problem into little bite-sized very possible tasks for the people around me
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE RECRUITERS LOOKING AT YOUR PROFILE TO KNOW?
