TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOU...
I am a final-year Political Science student with a minor in Economics and Public Policy at Universidad de los Andes, Colombia. I am particularly interested in AI governance, with a focus on compute governance. Currently, I am working on a project in this area under the mentorship of "Carreras con Impacto". Additionally, I am a community builder at the Effective Altruism chapter of my university, and starting this semester, I will be leading a national AI safety community in Colombia.
WHAT CONSIDERATIONS GUIDE YOU IN DECIDING HOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPEND YOUR CAREER? HOW DO YOU PRIORITIZE OR WEIGH THESE?
When deciding on my career path, I prioritize scale, neglectedness, and personal fit. I aim to address significant, impactful problems that are often overlooked. I've chosen to explore AI governance because AI has the potential to affect millions globally, yet few are focused on ensuring its safe development for humanity. Given its scale and neglected status, if I find myself fit for this area, the potential for impact is enormous.
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IDEAL ROLES FOR YOU, WHAT ARE SOME
KEY CHARACTERISTICS?
I'm seeking opportunities to make a significant impact while also learning as much as possible. I believe that being well-prepared is crucial for making a difference, and having the support and opportunities to reach that level is important to me.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE RECRUITERS LOOKING AT YOUR PROFILE TO KNOW?
I come from a poor household, and my family was affected by the Colombian armed conflict, limiting my opportunities growing up. Although I may not be fully prepared for big, impactful roles right now, I am highly motivated to seize opportunities to learn and do what is necessary to one day make a significant impact.
