TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOU...
I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2022 with a BA in History. I have been involved with effective altruism since late high school, and was involved with the effective altruism club at my college. I participated in the Cause Innovation Bootcamp in late 2022/early 2023, where I wrote a shallow investigation of arsenic remediation as a potential cause area. I am currently hoping to pivot into EA direct work.
WHAT CONSIDERATIONS GUIDE YOU IN DECIDING HOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPEND YOUR CAREER? HOW DO YOU PRIORITIZE OR WEIGH THESE?
I want my career to be a good match for my skills. This is a major factor for me, although obviously I'm happy to develop my skills on the job.
I want my career to have a significant (positive) impact on the world. This is a major factor for long-term planning, but a less important consideration in the short term.
I want my career to be interesting. This is a somewhat important consideration, but there are many tasks that I find interesting so it's not a major constraint for me.
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IDEAL ROLES FOR YOU, WHAT ARE SOME
KEY CHARACTERISTICS?
Ideally, I'd like a role that involves research and/or writing. (This could encompass a wide range of job duties.)
I work best in roles where my general overall priorities are clear, but I have flexibility with how I accomplish those priorities.
I prefer roles with some flexibility in how I allocate my hours -- I tend to work better in the evenings (later than traditional work hours) than the mornings. However, this is something I can be flexible about (e.g. I'm fine with morning meetings).
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE RECRUITERS LOOKING AT YOUR PROFILE TO KNOW?
I am currently located in Chicago, and don't anticipate relocating within the next few years (although I am fine with occasional travel as part of my job duties).
