TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOU...
I do research to help solve real-world problems, ideally those that are big, important, and neglected.
Previously, this has involved helping institutions make better decisions, understanding what works to reduce animal-product consumption, evaluating the impact of an AI safety organisation, and helping universities to reach net zero faster. I conduct systematic or rapid literature reviews, design and run surveys, analyse data, facilitate workshops, disseminate research, and delivery training.
WHAT CONSIDERATIONS GUIDE YOU IN DECIDING HOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO SPEND YOUR CAREER? HOW DO YOU PRIORITIZE OR WEIGH THESE?
There are two key considerations: I want my career to have a positive impact on the world, and I want to be happy / content at work. These factors are very related: if my career is having a positive impact on the world then I'm more likely to be happy with it, and if I'm happy I'm more likely to have an impactful career (because I'm more resilient, less likely to burnout etc.). In that sense, perhaps they're weighted quite equally.
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IDEAL ROLES FOR YOU, WHAT ARE SOME
KEY CHARACTERISTICS?
An ideal role would be one in which I feel supported, interested, and often in the zone of proximal development (i.e., I'm being challenged, but at just the right amount). Ideally, I'd be either building useful skills or knowledge, or I would be putting that into practice and seeing the impact it's having. I'd be working with like-minded people where the communication is clear, honest, and kind.

I'm likely unavailable from March or April, 2024, but am keen to do meaningful, useful work until then.
